Well this young legends – Lucas and James – showed me how it’s done.
Marco Sharkmen charters had to take one of the charter boats down to Portland and made a decision to stop at Port Fairy for a quick deep drop and try for a mako shark. Well, the young legends wanted me to come along and fish with them – so I did. But I took my cameras so I can filmed them in action.
While we where making a burley trail we had two electric reels at work. First, young James gets a Sea Perch then Lucas comes up with a massive Pink Ling. Pink Ling maybe looks a little ugly – but taste 10/10.
Then James picked up a Cod and when he got it to the surface he screamed – Mako Shark. Mako was following it and before you realize Marco had a rod setup, put a slimy mackerel on and Lucas quickly dropped it in the water. No even 10 seconds, this thing picked it up and we where on. The two young legends did and awesome “team work”, I never seen anything like it before. They where sharing the rod, helping each other and there was no competition at any time. They landed this fish and first thing you see – they “hi five”. It was unreal.
We manage few more fish like Gem fish, more perch and also a blue shark which we did let go, but this is the memories that 9 and 12 year old never gonna forget, plus, I will never forget how awesome fisherman this kids are.
I will have this in our next episode and I’m sure it will put smiles on many people faces.
Saying that Portland, Port Mac and Port Fairy is showing some quality big Tuna -55kg to 112kg- so it looks like it is going to be a great season from here on.
