2025 April 27 – King George Witing and Squid at St Leonards

Yesterday, me and Tass decided to give St Leonards a go and chase some KGW. We left Clifton Springs around 10.30am and as we got around the corner at Indented Heads, it chopped up a bit. White caps everywhere but still fish-able.

As we got there we start loosing bait like crazy, We knew it has to be Leather Jackets so we made quiet few moves. Then, we got 3 KGW’s in less then 5 minutes and as I setup cameras to film thinking here we go, that was it. Then just before tide change big slimy mackerel turned up. Again, as we got excited that we going to have some serious action – they stopped. We managed to land 3, also I had couple that braked my line as they where to much for 6lb leader.

In meantime we managed few squid and this time they preffered the Yamashita pink jig followed by green/yellow Clicks Jig. They where not big but OK size.

After I checked my underwater camera – what do you know. Millions of Leather Jackets, lots and lots of yakka’s and at times big stingray was patrolling the area. Also we got some great underwater footage of a squid that tried to attack my burley bucket.

All in all it was an OK day out!
