Yesterday trip to mud island was fun! Left Werribee at 7 am, straight to St Leonards to a whitting spot. No whitting at all just few small squid. Then around 9 am we went to Red Marker in front of the pier to try for squid and we only got another couple small ones. Around 10am we took of to Swan bay and try the edge of the marine park. Small Leather Jackets where cleaning us like Piranha. We only got one grass whitting and me managed 3 big squid. Then we went in beetween Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale and we only managed one big squid. We took of up to the heads and tryed for about an hour – nothing. The birds where diving just out of the bay, but the water was breaking and i did not want it to risk. That was the time when we went to east side of mud island. At the begining lots of small flattys, tones of Banjos, port Jacksons and Eagle Ray. Around 3pm we start to get few small Yakkas, one Salmon and lots of small Pinky’s. Then around 5pm Back to Flattys and few nice size Gurnard. In meantime we got few small gummys but no one to keep. Around 6 30 we manged the first 4-5kg on the Yakka fillet. No long after we had the second one hooked but we lost it just in front of the boat as she managed to get our line around the berley backet rope. By 8pm we were back to Werribee.
Cheers
Happy Fisherman
